This video is straight from the camera and was never processed with any video editing software.

The settings are in the title of the video.

Is this what 24p footage should look like? Notice the flicker as Im panning? Its almost like two vidos one behind other and one is a frame ahead of the other one if that makes any sense. Its kind of annoying and honestly not clean looking. I feel like the footage should be smoother.

Recorded on a sony a6500 with a native lens. IBIS and lens IS all enabled

4k 24p 1/50(180 degree rule or as close as the camera allows for 24p)

800iso slog2

Not that I'm into the video scene much, and I do use Canon not Sony, but I was told once that a similar effect was due to the in body image stabilization so you might try shooting with it disabled as a test.

I downloaded your YT clip, and found that YT did indeed recognize your clip as 24p - good.

Which leaves judder as the likely cause of this. Basically, when shooting 24p, there's a formula for the speed of pans to avoid this problem. That's right - it's an expected part of shooting 24p - pans need to be *very* slow!

Were you at 1/48th or 1/50th shutter speed? Too fast a shutter speed (because no neutral density filters for sunlit exteriors) can make this judder worse. Edit: how did I miss that. OP wrote they were at 1/50th. Never mind...

Here’s a good explanation of judder, some tips, some links, and a link to a panning calculator:

Thanks for the replies. I guess I expected the 24p footage to be a bit smoother than that.

I took some footage at 30p 1/60 yesterday and its way way way better. Im shooting at 30p from now on I guess

Please note that when you get more into fps differences you'll encounter the term "soap opera effect". That means high fps and perhaps interpolation processing resulting in smooth pans and solid movement, film purists hate that. 24p material should be motion blurred to look "good", with more fps you do not need any limiting of pan speeds or other "tricks".
