Happy new year everyone!

I've been working on an astrophotography setup for some time now. The goal was to save a few bucks on the equipment while still getting decent images. Of course some compromises had to be made, and the setup isn't as sleek or convenient as some new equipment. Now things are finally operational - Here's my first image of Andromeda through the new scope! Please excuse the dust, the sensor really should have been cleaned before imaging last time :)

I just wanted to share my experience building the equipment for anyone else interested in doing the same. https://gerritsendesign.wordpress.com …ope-mount-diy-tracker-v3/ (external link)

Nice shot. That is an incredible build! Thanks for documenting that. I’m working on a 3D print focuser, but don’t think I have the ambition for the entire mount. Amazing job!

Thanks Ryan!

I tried 3D printing the motor-focuser coupler, but never had much success. The coupler kept slipping on the 2.4mm focuser shaft. By that time the knob was already missing... Maybe a coupler that attaches to the knob instead of the shaft wouldn't slip. Please share if you're successful!

FYI I have a USB-controlled stepper driver for my focuser and an ASCOM driver from before it was all integrated into the mount. PM me if you're interested in any part of it :)

Well done. It must have been satisfying getting your first results.

I'm looking closely at your stars and they look pretty round to me ... so I think your tracking mount is a success! Nice job! (that looked like a lot of work)

Dave - Thanks, yeah it feels good to finally have something worth sharing :)

TC - Hey thanks! As I recall it was about 120 minutes of imaging, around 50% was discarded due to tracking errors (which I found the cause of and dealt with). Hopefully better success rate next time.
