I am heavily invested in the Canon EF lenses and I have an old 5D II. It has served me well over the years I have had it but my wife and I are expecting a first baby and I have recently been looking to upgrade my camera body to get a better AF system etc.

My lenses are all EF lenses so I guess I am looking to remain FF if possible (but could be convinced otherwise if there is good reason). I have pondered getting a DSLR with a tilt screen but I am not completely sold on this. I think the most important thing is to have a solid AF system. I have thought about going for the 5D IV as well as the 7D II. For the tilt screen, I thought about the 6D II (partly because it has the tilt screen) but the more I think about it, I might just be better off going for the full overhaul upgrade of the 5D since the 5D II is now very dated.

There are rumors that the new 5D will have a tilt screen and that would probably seal the deal for me but I am not sure that I can wait.

What would body would people recommend?

Thanks!

There have only been like a gazillion great kids photos shot with the 5D2. I'd buy the Canon 24-70mm instead.

I recommend the 5D IV. I went from the II to the IV and have no regrets. It’s an awesome camera. The tilt screen (or lack of it) is a non-issue. I have it on another camera and never use it.

Op,

In the type of photography required pre/post baby, high iso is probably more beneficial. 5d2 af for slow/static is more than sufficient.

5d4 would be a tool for video and stills.

Thing about video is that EF glass even with external mic the audio will pick up the noisy af motors. This is where a Sony A7i/ A9 and lenses are much quieter for vids. You can always but a dji pocket.

If you have all of the lenses to meet your needs a new body is logical. 5d4 is a universal beast equipped with dual memory cards.

A new camera probably won't improve your photos much if any. Take a hard look at where you feel you are coming up short, and decide if improvements in technique or lighting might make be a better investment.

I have our children photos taken with 500D, 5Dc, 5DMKII. Not a problem, but 5D MKII AF has a bug if individual AF point is selected. Still usable with all AF points enabled.
Get 24-105L IS and 400 series flash. IS and L makes most of the difference.
I even used 100L for newborn.
