S50 Image Rotate

I just got myself the S50 about a month ago. Good looking camera, good portability, great images. Still, whenever i take photos with the camera sideways, I can't seem to get them transferred on the computer that way. I turned the auto-rotate feature on, and the images on the camera appear rotated during the preview, but when I transfer them to the computer, they are all still sideways. Anyone experience a similar problem? Any solutions?

Thanks

I don't think the camera "Autorotates" the image in any way except when veiwing on the camera's LCD.

There are a few great image browsers out there though that make it easy to rotate images in large groups.

I use ACDsee and the browser allows you to rotate all images in a folder,. or you can select as many images as you need to by clicking on the thumbnails,. and then rotate the whole batch.

This is an indispensible time saver,.. especially if you happen to use the BG-ED3 grip on a DSLR which aids in taken portrait shots!

Yep, you're right...

From page 103 of the S50 Manual.

" This camera is equipped with an Intelligent Orientation sensor that detects the
orientation of an image shot with the camera on end and automatically rotates it
to the correct viewing orientation in the display. You can set this function on/off."

This is strange indeed. I have an old S200 Elph, and that always rotated the images when I downloaded the pictures, so I didn't have to manually rotate them. Any reason why my S50 should perform differently?

The problem is the computer program user to see images, not the camera. The program must be able to understand the image orientation stored in the EXIF data.

The Auto-Rotate setting only affects how the pictures show up on the camera screen. Canon's ZoomBrowser program will rotate the pictures, when you transfer them to your computer, but if your just drag and drop the files in Windows Explorer, they will not be rotated.

I don't like the Canon program, so I use BreezeBrowser with Breeze Downloader instead, and the pictures can be auto-rotated with this solution as well (the setting is in the Preferences). See www.breezesys.com (external link) for more.
