Apologies if in wrong topic.

I'm planning to buy the 80D but apprehensive of a new price near $1000. Been looking on Ebay and see many used ones for half or more than that $1000 area. So my question is, have you or would you buy used? What would be your concern when viewing used devices?

Thanks

Yup.

799 from canon refurb

I buy used from people here I trust, or that have a long history of posting good info and participation. I also buy used from Craigslist so I can check out the gear.

I'd rather buy refurb for the warranty.

I've purchased several used bodies over the years. It's just a matter of finding a deal you are comfortable with, from a source you can trust. I know that sounds too easy, but you just have to be choosy and then pull the trigger on the deal onde you are ready.

I only buy used. . I have no concerns at all. . Cameras and lenses are really, really tough, and can take a lot of use and abuse and keep on performing perfectly.

Why buy new and be the person who ends up suffering depreciation? . I'd rather let someone else lose value and then buy their gear at a much reduced cost.

I've bought lots and lots of used gear and have no regrets at all. . The only regrets are from the two items I bought new.

Up until recently, I bought nothing but used DSLR's and was pleased with them. Everything from the 1D, 1DII, 1Ds, 1DsII, 1DsIII and 1Dx were clean, low mileage and never had an issue. Do your research, look for sellers with a lot of positive feedback and ask questions. The great part of buying Canon refurbished is the one year warranty but you do pay for it.

I have purchased several refurbs from Canon and all seemed to be untouched brand new. Latest was an M3 that came with the EOS lens converter. I paid $300 for the batch -- the converter alone at retail was something like $200. So, you can get a good deal if the timing is right.

I have also sold gear on this website and the feedback was always great. Just make sure you buy from somebody reputable.

Thank you for responses.

Yes, depreciation value sucks. This is why I never purchase a new car. I have always bought used. I've done the same with many tools in my garage, some furniture and misc. items with great success. Now consider that option for this camera.

I do consider seller feedback and their history., also. For example, sellers with 100 or more feedbacks and 100% positive will be taken into serious consideration to purchase. Currently, there is a seller in my neighborhood. A return would be a convenient face to face encounter as is the pickup.

Thanks again.

Neighborhood or not, do not expect someone to take a piece of equipment back after you walk away with it.

I took my laptop to a coffee shop to test a lens once. We met, I put the lens on my camera, took some shots of a brick wall and the sky. We entered the coffee shop, sat down, and within minutes I could tell that it was not what I was looking for. Thanked the guy and left. No hard feelings.

I buy used from Craigslist too. Easy to look closely for signs of abuse, internal dust, etc. Also allows me to test the item to make sure everything works as it should. Then I upload test images to my laptop to get a quick view. If I see issues, I thanks the seller and tell them it is not what I am looking for. If everything looks good, I will complete the deal. Never had an issue with a used product.
