Hello,

So, before anyone claims that I received fake batteries I would like to let everyone know that I purchased my Eneloop Pros directly from B&H. I received 8 batteries, which I used on 2 of my Yongnuo 565's and after one shoot (an hour or 2) the batteries in one flash unit were dead. I put them in my new Maha smart charger and had them fully charged before using them again (not hot at this point). I noticed that after the second time of using them in my Yongnuo they felt really hot to the touch, however, I don't remember this being an issue the first time I used them in my flash. So, to simplify things, I received 8 Eneloop pro's and they all came pre charged, but 4 of them were dead after the first use and required to be charged. The other 4 batteries have still not needed a charge, so I'm wondering if it were possible to receive 4 bad batteries out of 8.

Thank you,

David

The batteries can indeed become hot during charging, depending on what charge rate you set. That is why you should always be home during charging of batteries, and not have them near anything flammable.

They may only come about 50-70% charged from online sources too, so if you didn't charge them first fully, you get whatever level they discharged to after leaving the factory.

Thanks for replying! I just find it strange that the other 4 batteries which were in the same pack have still not needed a charge and I've used those about 2 more times. The other flash unit is set at the same power, but those batteries seem to stay a lot cooler when doing the same amount of bursts.

Different battery packs sitting on shelves for different amounts of time will have different potential in them when you receive them. Just charge them all up to 100% and then see how they work the next time around. If they behave differently, then I would contact B&H.

I have found that these batteries sometimes do not deliver their full capacity until they have been cycled a few times. If you have a voltmeter let them discharge to slightly less than 1 volt, then recharge. Do this two or three times and then judge the capacity. A small flashlight that takes AA batteries is a good way to discharge the cells.

Use that Maha to condition and cycle them before use and then you will see their true capacity.
