This particular location, hawk watch, is set on the edge of a 500 foot cliff, with a river down below. Many migrating birds, as well as these local peregrines, often fly low, at or even below the eye level. This gives that unique perspective/angle.

Tips? Patience, practice and persistence are the key in bird photography. Showing up as often as you can, getting familiar with your gear and knowing behavior of your subject are one of the most important things to "master".

Palisades, Montclair, or Delaware Water Gap? Those are the places I can think of that have a cliff near water. Nicely captured image!
