Recently purchased a Pro Grade Digital card reader that is for CF and SD. Runs USB 3.0 and 3.1. A very nice unit, very solid. Back is magnetic to attach to your laptop. I have only used it a couple of times so far but with both CF cards and SD cards, the transfer is very fast to my MacBook Air. Very nice piece of equipment and pleased with the overall performance and quality.

What else did you consider? I see a USB-C hub for $24 that can also read SD and CF and also brings to the table some additional type-A USB ports (2) and a slot for microSD. See https://www.amazon.com …arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 (external link).

[Edit] Hot off the press this AM is the related article at https://arstechnica.com …erbolt-3-and-usb-c-docks/ (external link).

I had a cheap plastic reader that I bought from Staples and I keep that in my camera bag as a back up. It has worked OK, not quite as fast but it does seem sort of cheap and flimsy so I wanted something with a bit more quality to keep at my desktop computer. Saves me from having to hook up the download cables to the camera

It claims full speed downloading of two cards simultaneously, but the only way that can happen is if used two cords going to cards on two different busses. If it's going to a single bus, the bus will be the bottleneck.

Why? USB3.1 has 10Gb/s bandwidth. After all overhead, usable rate for user data is in 800MB/s. UDMA7 CF + UHS-II SD interface together isn't 800MB/s
