One of my students jumped from a 7D2 to an EOS-R, and got rid of very quickly because it wouldn't properly track warbirds at airshows. Sadly he moved to a Sony A9 and it's not performing much better.

Could it be difficulties getting to grips with the camera? If history has proven anything. it's that evolution always wins!!

The eos r should be able to do that based on various accounts of using it for some action, and the a9 should certainly be able to if the proper mode was used. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

Jan 29, 2019 12:21 | #19 Choderboy wrote in post #18800531 I think you would regret ditching the 1DX for an R. I'm 16 days into the R. (4 days a week shooting it over 4 weeks). Canon INC made a comment about the R. Words to effect: It makes a great addition. I think that is it in a nutshell. I added the R. There are aspects of it I like. I don't regret buying it. (I jumped on the first discount I found since release, 20% off RRP) There are aspects I don't like however. I am certain if I had of replaced any DSLR I have owned in the last 10 years I would have regretted it. thanks Dave - good insight stuff! some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

The Sony did get better after heavily adjusting some of the focus tracking settings, but it's still not as good as the 7D2 was (although better than the EOS-R). hmmmm... some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I have never owned a 1DX. Just a thought but I think a 5DIII would be useful for what you need if you dont want to go to a brand new camera. These were taken with 5DIII and 135L (not the best lens for the this sort of thing) camera tracked quite well most of the time, to be honest I think I could have done better with my 7DII, the files clean up well and you have those 10fps Image hosted by forum (958691) © aladyforty [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. The A9 is a very reliable body for this.
