Hey everyone - like a lot of the country, we’ve been experiencing some extremely cold weather...we are expecting -70 windchills tomorrow.

But, this cold weather creates sea smoke on Lake Superior and I dragged my butt out of bed at 5AM to go stand on the shore at a balmy -25.

I think it was worth it!

(Ignore the sensor dust please, I’ll clean that up - ha!)

Wow...you earned those shots. I can't even imagine the reality of that kind of coldness. Beautiful shots, Kudos!

I "liked" your images above, but I think I like your fortitude in getting out there into the elements to grab those shots even more. Going down to -27F or less here in the next 24 hours. Be safe and stay warm!

Thanks, guys...it was indeed cold, but probably didn't feel quite as bad as it sounds - the wind letting up that morning really helped.

Stay warm and stay safe, David!

Well done. The wind makes a huge difference. Even 10mph at that temperature probably would have been hard to handle.

Love the colors in that first one. Once the sensor dust is gone it'll be a wall-hanger for sure!

Definitely - wind would have made this pretty hard to handle, especially with gloves off to work the camera.

Good for you.

That's what I love about winter photography. I can wake up at 5AM, get ready and drive an hour to make it to the location 40 minutes before sunrise. In the summer, when sunrise is much earlier, you're talking 4AM.
