So RP or R. Both I believe are overpriced, but what differences does the R have that are worth the extra $1000?

That I can see

$100 - 8000th shutter
$50 - bigger and better LCD
$100 - better OLED viewfinder
$10 - Comfortable Rubber piece around viewfinder
$75 - A bit more DSLR like from a dimensions standpoint (overall feel)
$100 - Slightly better battery

Thanks

What a deal... ;)

$435 vs $1000...

The EOS R could have been introduced at $1700 and still made Canon a nice profit, and would have sold even more, possibly eliminating the need to even create the RP, and concentrate more on the pro version.

So now we have to see whether they take the RP as is, and just slap an APS-C sensor into it to create the replacement rebel line.

I have the 6D mk1 ; unsure if I should upgrade or not , thought it would have been an easier choice. Video does not appeal to me so it's not a deciding factor.

Ill be getting the RP and save the extra $1000 to fund the Pro version whenever that comes out, and keep the RP as back up/travel.

I think many are going to do this and save the money either for RF lenses or a new future body. I think the EOS R sales are going to fall a bit flat.

RP will sell well and the amount of RF L lenses being released indicates a RF mount pro body may come out within 17 months.

With the free goodies, it makes the camera about $1100, which isn't bad at all. Later, those goodies won't be given out I am sure.

My guess is the street price by Christmas will settle at $1000-1100

Depends on what is important to you. If it is high ISO noise, the 5D4 is similar but the noise is a little finer on the 5D4, and the 1DxII is noticeably better, but that's it. The 6D2 and the R have more noise than the 6D at high ISOs. I do not expect the RP to have less high-ISO noise than the 6D in the RAWs, even if the OOC JPEGs have heavier NR. Canon doesn't seem to care about high ISO noise anymore.

I'll stick to my 6D for FF until a 60 - 80MP R series camera comes out, and doesn't disappoint with noise.

Ild like to get one to play with but the fact that silent shooting only works in full auto mode.... and that autofocus for moving subjects is poor.... will wait a bit longer. If they bring out a 1DX R.... I'm all over that.

From what I have read is there is a consolidation play at hand at Canon... and that some are speculating that for the most part, the rebal like will be consolidated down to a single offering, and may have a full frame sensor two. A 24 mpx aps-c sensor is NOT cheaper to source than a full frame 24 mpx sensor. So who knows.... this may be the end of ICL crop cameras.

People have been scheming that Canon will eliminate the crop sensor for 15 years now. I have been on the boards for 15 years, and have heard it time and time again.

An APS C is definitely cheaper to manufacturer, and if you keep a set of lenses that pander to that sensor, the lenses are cheaper to manufacture as well, nothing has changed from those factors.

The M series, being mirrorless, and having the framework in place that fed into the EOS R and RP design, will be around for a few years at least, and makes up the best option for Canon to replace the Rebel DSLR. And this is based on Canon's comments directly, not from internet chatter.

I might pony up $1000 for the EOS RP, but for now I will just use the booster on the M50 to give me FF results by turning my f1.4 primes into f1.0 primes, with better video options and 10fps.

You continue to impress me with the results you get from the M50. Great work.

I've got an M50, and I just pulled the trigger on the new RP so I have a FF option for landscapes and portraits. That said, I'll keep the M50 because it's such a great camera and the lens options are quite nice... and tiny. I absolutely love the M50 + 22mm f2 combo that weighs a pound and fits into my pocket.

That is from the viltrox .71x booster and an old Sigma 50 DG 1.4 lens. One big issue with the booster is that it kills the battery in a day if you leave it on. Very frustrating.

It is hard to really look at the R or RP at this point, having the M50 with the booster and the 5D4. That is good because I have to save up for whatever pro version they come out with.
