Sadly, it seems to be a (bad) reflection on DHL shipping/handling process, as somewhere within their processes the exterior packaging was exposed to sufficient abuse as to be busted open!

Yes. I would not rule out intentional damage either. I know in some companies involved in shipping some workers become knowledgeable and skilled in detecting various products they intend to steal. The 'hot' items are quickly identified by management due to all the complaints by senders so become too risky and they look for other items. My box has 2 very good peep holes...

This will survive any rough handling. A bit stupid I can't tape it up secure now, have to leave it open for the courier to inspect.
