By One Mile Creek I watched Welcome Swallows flying erratically as they hoovered up insects out of thin air.
My shoot began with a serendipitous moment when one perched a few metres away on a strand of barbed wire, Click, Click, Click!
I’ve tried catching their aerial foraging several times over the years, but never succeeded until today. Swallows fly at speeds of up to 10/mps, (20mph).
This is how it went:
Lens: M.Zuiko 40-150mm F2.8 pro + 1.4x TC
Camera set up - M5 Mkii, AE mode 1/8000sec, F6.3, Continuous 10 fps, 73.0 mm (35 mm equivalent: 146.2 mm) , ISO 1000,
Technique: Panned 'from the hip' in the general direction of target, hoping it was in-frame; some were, most weren’t, which was hard to swallow.
