Fixed-Lens Photo Challenge #17: Subject: Cheerful
_______________

This week’s topic: It is February, it is cold, it has short dreary days, it has long cold nights, rain...ice...snow rule the day on this side of the planet! So, post up something that will cheer me up! Warm my heart! Bring a smile to my face! I'll leave the interpretation to you...just make it a cheerfully themed photo. As usual great exposure and composition will carry the day!
_______________

Remember, if you post a photo, you may be the winner. Be prepared to host and judge a new challenge.

To submit, click the button labeled "POST TO THREAD" and put your photo title in the first line of the post, above your photo. Your camera brand and model must appear in the post. Include additional EXIF data, if you like.

Enter just one photo.

Post until Monday noon GMT, 18 February 2019

Rules

  1. Camera: Any fixed-lens camera, all brands and models. Cell phones are also included. No DSLRs!

  2. Time: Any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible except photos that have won other POTN competitions.

  3. Size: Photo must be no less than 800 pixels and no more than 1600 pixels on the longest side, with no borders.

  4. Postprocessing: Do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.

  5. Photo Display: Photos must appear in this thread to be eligible.

  6. Commenting: Please Title your photo. No commenting or descriptions on photos by anyone, including the photographer. Once the winners are declared, photographers can add comments to their images and everyone is invited to discuss. The host and others may also post photos after the winners are announced.

    Hosting

    1. The challenge host is the winner of the last challenge.

    2. As soon as possible after your win is announced, start a thread in the Competitions forum with this title: Fixed-Lens Challenge #XXX: Subject.

    3. To use this format for posting your challenge, use the MQ button down in the right corner of the screen. Then hit 'Start A New Thread'.

    4. Soon after noon GMT on the next Monday, post your choices for first, second, and third place. No ties, please. Comments on the photos are nice but not required.

    5. If the winner can't be contacted and doesn't respond by Wednesday noon GMT, the second-place winner will host the challenge. If both are unavailable, the third-place winner will host.

Schedule

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:
  • New Topic: As soon as possible after winning.
  • Posting Starts: Right after topic is announced.
  • Posting Stops: Monday noon GMT.
  • Winners Announcement: As soon as possible, max. until Tuesday noon GMT.

Pay attention to your PMs or “Heads Up!” messages. This will allow the host, helpful members, or moderators to contact you about winning or ineligible photos...Thank you.

Thanks to all that entered and trying to cheer me up :-) Alas the smile on my face has been removed by the weatherman's announcement of six inches of snow for this Wednesday! :-(

I had hoped for more entries this past week but the four that played did an amazing job...well done by all! That said I must rank them in order....so here goes:

Levina de Ruijter - An excellent collection of ever so colorful characters! My only nitpick is the panel joint on the left...you should clone that out.

camarogod93 - A great photo making me want to get the sun in my face and the wind in my hair...excellent and with a cellphone to boot!

OHLook - A happy fellow indeed...happiness is infectious and I did catch it.

Maureen Sousa - Ha! Is that Skip hiding under the parka? Brrrr...not warming me up here :-) Another cellphone challenge to mainstream cameras!

And the winners are:

1st Place - camarogod93
2nd Place - OhLook
3rd Place - Levina de Ruijter
Honorable Mention - Maureen Souza

Over to you camarogod93...you hold the 1st Place! And, welcome to the Fixed Lens Photo Challenge

One thing that never fails to cheer me up are cartoons. Obviously I can't post any of those here, but I do have a handful of characters...

Jim, thank you for second place and for reminding us to find cheer amid the snow, rain, wind, sleet, gloom of night . . .

Congratulations to camarogod, Levina, and Maureen.

Levina, I don't see the joint in your wall as a flaw. It does something to balance the large figure on the right.

Congratulations to camarogod and OhLook. And to Maureen as well.

Thanks for the bronze cup, Jim.

Actually, this is the reason I left it in, OhLook. I too thought it balanced the scene rather nicely. Thanks!

Challenge #18 hasn't appeared. Has anyone reminded camarogod? I'll need to know if I'm to fill in.

Hey guys! Sorry, work was a little busy this morning. Alarm issues in my office.

Thank you guys! This was a lot of fun!

Thanks for returning, camarogod. I was getting worried. Sometimes first-time participants win one challenge or another and don't check back.

I didn't think about it last night and as soon as I got into the office, things were a mess. Sorry for the delay! Challenge 18 is up!
