Regarding the “free grip”...

Seems it offers nothing more than to increase physical size of camera. Doesn’t hold any batteries or offer any portrait orientation controls.

Will this also be the most hated camera on the internet by spec sheet nerds, video guys and non users? Hmmmm willing to bet on it..:-

It could be most hated by those who have something to lose from its sales. The price is so good, and if it adapts EF lenses as good as the EOS R, it should be successful.

Pretty much any Canon body will be as people just love to hate them. Even if people hate Canon, they should love this body. This body will push all camera makers to make an affordable FF option so its a very important step for the industry.

The consumer/entry level market is most profitable too so I personally think this will sell like crazy.

Small capacity battery and single memory card is going to be an issue for many.

For a hardcore shooter I think they are anticipating a dual card pro version of the EOS R.

i like the low price...i'm starting to think i'm the only person in that world that doesn't need a small camera...what do people with bigger hands do with these things that you can only hold with 3 digits...smaller isn't always better

That is the reason for the 'grip' which is included at no extra charge. Not a bad idea, I might add.

This thing is going to kill 6D2 sales, which were already lackluster. $1300 is a very aggressive price point; about where the 6D2 should have been. Access to both RF and EF lenses (with the included RF/EF adapter), not much to not like in a basic FF camera body.

Anyone seen confirmation of dual pixel during video?

I saw some Sony fan boy sayin it didn't have it. I haven't seen it discussed either way.

I did see confirmation of no 24fps in 4k, 30 and 60 but no 24. So stupid.

Oddly, for many people the 6D2 will offer more and is cheaper, but still gets heavily criticised despite the price it's now available for.

Being compatible with Canon's future lens system is what really makes it win out, however like many I'd be having the EF adapter permanently mounted to use my existing lens collection anyway. By the time a good range of cheaper RF mount lenses are available I expect Canon will have provided us with a better range of bodies to choose from.

No, that is reserved for the R, a full 1000 more in price tag. At least this one is priced like it should be.

Gorden Lang explains the video features in detail, not a video centric camera at all, consider this a full frame rebel.

No dpaf during 4K, includes only a few basic modes. That price though... You get what you can.

I've always been willing to give Canon the benefit of the doubt, but no DPAF in video is incredibly stupid. And I rarely shoot video.

One big plus is that I now won't feel like I need to keep up with all the RP details coming out today.

Just consider it a 1080p camera, I consider the EOS-R the same ;-)a

I shoot tons of video these days, more than I do photography, and I say the specs come with the price. Any sony camera will have FAR superior video to the EOS-R, so if video is even remotely your thing, yeah, it's not even close.

I'm OK with this RP being fairly basic with video features, it's a FF rebel!

It certainly shouldn't be. Canon SAID this would be an entry-level body, below the R. How could it surpass the R specs at that price?
I don't have experience with that battery, but if it performs like the even smaller one in my M50, it will be just fine.
