I didn't say it was great, but assumed most users won't be transferring files on the fly and shooting sporting events professionally.

So people won't use the wifi mode to share images on facebook etc? The battery only lasts for 200-300 shots maybe, and when it runs to the end, it drops off quickly. Once of the worst things on the M50. Has nothing to do with professional use, in fact somebody using it professionally would actually get more usage from a battery as they wouldn't be chimping as much.

it's fiddly.

imagine shooting with the 11-22, 24-70 EF and 135 EF. Pretty normal to have said combo, you're shooting the 135, go inside with the 11-22, decide to swap to 24-70, you've got to swap out adapters (135 -> 24-70), then swap lenses..... ugh fiddly. Sure, EF lenses are low cost offerings, however price isnt everything.

I've played these adapter games, still playing them now. Only way to make it comforting is to have multiple adapters, one for each lens. With that, you get into size creep, an additional 250g for two adapters, additional length, and costs...

The booster is an EF adapter and .71x TC all in one, no need to pull it off ever when using EF lenses. If you want to mix EFM lenses, sure I guess so, but either I am running with EF lenses for non travel, or EFM lenses when traveling and wanting to go totally light and travel friendly.

My only point is that the M50 and EOS RP are basically siblings, using different glass, other than the EF lenses bridging between them, and you could just use EF lenses in FF format on the M50 if you really wanted to save costs.

"The big news on the RP is that the pupil-detection aspect of the 'Face + Tracking' mode now works in both continuous (Servo) AF mode, as well as single shot. Admittedly, a slight labeling glitch and tiny on-screen icons can make it a little tricky to tell when you've turned it on. Once engaged it finds eyes fairly well and lets you press the left and right directions on the four-way controller to pick which eye the camera should focus on."

On the flip side;
"The Canon RP is based around a sensor we weren't that impressed by, and we're expecting plenty of 'no IS, no purchase' comments below our coverage, but we think it gets quite a lot right.

It's less ambitious than the EOS R but by combining twin command dials with the excellent Feature Assist interface and a really keen price tag, it ends up looking rather charming.

There are lots of specs that enthusiasts will turn their noses up at ("2.5fps shooting in 'Tracking Priority,' LOL"), but there's also a lot the EOS RP gets right. Not least the images it produces."

From DPR; https://www.dpreview.com …-the-canon-eos-rp?slide=8 (external link)

For those still on the fence for Canon mirrorless, the price alone will cause several to just save the several hundred dollars from the EOS R, get the RP and then some RF glass. It will be interesting to see what happens to the sales of the EOS R and how fast the falls over the next 6 months.

That is the reason for the 'grip' which is included at no extra charge. Not a bad idea, I might add.

This thing is going to kill 6D2 sales, which were already lackluster. $1300 is a very aggressive price point; about where the 6D2 should have been. Access to both RF and EF lenses (with the included RF/EF adapter), not much to not like in a basic FF camera body.

That makes it what? The same height as a rebel? For me ergonomics are a big part, and tiny cameras don’t work

An FF camera at this price, is very appealing. As someone already said, this could kill the 6D2 for sure. Maybe.

For the time being, there are going to be people that are still looking for SLR.
Some will continue to perceive the SLR as the more "pro" solution, simply out of old habit, and will pay the extra 200.00 for the 6D2.

Did he say all future RF bodies would have IBIS, or that IBIS was coming in the future?

I don't particularly need it, so either way is fine for my needs.

No he said it is official. All future R Mount bodies will have IBIS

I’m considering replacing my 5D Mark IV with this camera. The small light size is really attractive for hiking and landscape.

This is exactly where I'm at. Very tempting as a hiking/travel camera, where my 6DII is fine but a smaller version would be great.

I’m just concerned about the dynamic range. If it’s the same as the 6DM2, I’ll keep the 5DM4.

Over on Canon Rumors they have an interview with a Canon exec who confirms it is a modified version of the 6D2's sensor (modified with microlenses for the smaller registration distance). This is as you would expect, you have to cut corners and re-use existing components to hit this $1300 price point.

Cut corners? This makes the sensor inferior how?

People around here use terms like "recycled processors" like somebody pulled'em out of the trash can or something.

I didn't say they would or they wouldn't after the 16:9 crop. I simply asked if anybody had read or deciphered the answer yet from the propaganda. :)

I'm sort of hoping they don't crop it. It will give us R owners ammunition to fight with. :)

I assume at this point you know it has a 1.74 (versus my 1.77 calc) crop factor for 4K with contrast detect, probably the worst of all combinations. Nobody is going to buy the RP for its movie prowess that is for sure. Stills all day though... :)

This camera will appeal to those that were considering the 6D2 (or have one but want to move to RF), or want a smaller backup FF to their existing more capable FF bodies, or those folks wanting to move from APS-C to FF, and now they can use their EF/EFS glass as well without having to go through the sales of these lenses, and not spend alot of money in the move over to FF. You can forget about video though, unless 1080 for a school performance.

That is most likely the majority market for this camera, which is a pretty large pool of people.

MSRP and going rate at reputable vendors shows it's not cheaper,. $1,500.00 vs. $1,300.00 for the RP?

I cannot find where an EOS RP is going to be cheaper than what I paid for my 6DII, which was AU$1480. Closest pre-order price I can see for the RP is around the AU$1900 mark. Add the cost of the EF adapter and it'll be over AU$2000.

That's not to say that it's a bad price, but for the feature set it seems about in line with the 6DII (win some, lose some).

If they were the same price when I bought my 6DII I probably would've leaned towards the EOS RP, as I have a 7D for action stuff, however if using a single body I'd still prefer the 6DII over the RP. The R-mount body and lens lineup needs some maturing before I go there, which based on my purchasing pattern is probably 2+ years away now.
