These should be easier than insects but surprisingly aren't.
Actually advice on all flowers particularly house plants would be welcome.
I think the problem is the light but I am not sure how to improve it, maybe a torch behind hand.

I guess the first thing is to post the correct image size to show. :p

This is a selection of my snowdrops which are no better than yours TBH, they are quite tricky.

This is why I tried the ultra wide shots in https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=18810679 to try and get a more dramatic (or at least different) view on the little white photo shy floras.

I think there are a few general issues:

1. Quite low plants. I you can find some on an elevated position to get the camera low (lower than a beanbag) effectively at ground level.
Different flowers but compare
http://www.ware.myzen.co.uk …0flowers_001_22-02-14.jpg (external link) and
http://www.ware.myzen.co.uk …0flowers_023_22-02-14.jpg (external link)

2. They tend to grow in more crowded areas, so it is harder to get good isolation.
If you can afford the space to backup enough then the longer the lens the less stuff there is in the background for a given magnification due to perspective. I regularly use the 180L or even the 300 f/4L if there is enough space with flowers.

3. They are white and apart from the green marking very plan. To maximise texture in the white parts of the flower shoot in overcast conditions and ensure the whites are not too close to clipping.

Good luck!!!

They can be tricky indeed. I've tried it last weekend(posted/will post in post your best flower shots and 100Lmacro thread) and while mine are far from perfect I've got a few tips:

Try to isolate 1 or 2 flowers( this means often on your belly in strange postures).
Try to use a small f-number(again for isolation).
Keep an eye on your exposure, I used spot-metering on the flower and raised the highligts in LR and lowered the shadows to darken the background. PP can make quite a difference on the finished picture.(if you want to I can post some before/after pics)
Best is a soft sunlight but I also used my macro flash for some shots.
And practice, practice, practice while they are still flowering.
