The package I actually have is Cable TV, telephone and internet for slightly less than $100/month.
Why is it that providers push telephone service in their plans, with so many people having cell phones?

The call to cancel Comcast was one of the most enjoyable calls I have ever had. Wish we had ATT fiber on our side. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm

Zero additional cost to them, but something they can bill you for in the bundle. TANSTAAFL--The Only Unbreakable Rule in Photography

Not sure which side you are on, but they do have fiber in a number of East Bay areas (Fremont, Newark, Hayward, Oakland, San Leandro, El Cerrito, San Ramon, Union City, Dublin, and Livermore). Sonic.net also offers fiber in some ares. - Dave | flickr

Problem here in US is ISPs are big monopolies and consumer doesn't have much options. At least in bigger areas you can get something. Good luck if you live in smaller places. I live in the middle of nowhere, my town is getting 1G fiber right now, my house is very isolated power ends at the end of my lot, being able to get fast internet

Only had measly 24Mbps from AT&T which would drop to 2-3Mbps at night time. So switched to Comcast 150Mbps as I had no other option. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm

Yeah, I think that with the large conglomerate ISP's that we are forced to live with it is always going to be a "grass is greener on the other side" kind of thing. One good thing about Comcast is that you can bring your own modem/gateway and not have to pay a monthly rental fee. That isn't an option with the ATT Gigabit service (even though they don't acutally break out a separate monthly fee I'm sure it's rolled into the monthly price). I don't even use their gateway as I am using a workaround so that I can use my own router. - Dave | flickr

Mar 17, 2019 00:09 | #24 I take a different approach. I don't have a high speed internet provider. I use my 4G phone as a mobile hot spot for internet access. For $60/month I get unlimited data. Websites load fast and uploading images to photo hosting sites is pretty quick. Watching movies on my laptop works well. When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.

I don't even use their gateway as I am using a workaround so that I can use my own router. I couldn't complain about my Comcast download speeds (300 Mbps) but the uploads were horrendous at 10Mbps. What used to take me 6 weeks to backup to Backblaze I can now do in one day. Crazy. My Comcast cost was also scheduled to go up to $120/month for the 300/10 service and even though I had already switched to ATT, just for poops and giggles when I called to cancel I acted like I was just calling to see if they could do anything with the price. They told me they couldn't help with the price unless I also signed up for their TV/Phone service. So it felt *so* good to just tell them, "Never mind, just cancel". All of a sudden they wanted to work on the price So I asked them if they could match ATT and give me 1 Gbps up and down, unlimited, for $80/month. The guy was quiet for second and then in really quiet voice just said, "No". Good times. The 1GbE up/down is real nice, just not many apps to justify it for most folks. I do need to get my own model so I don't pay comcast their $11 monthly fee. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm
