I'd like to see how crazy this magnification would look when it's a picture of an insect. Didn't have a chance to go searching for some...

This is a shot of a VERY VERY small pin.

This shot was taken with a 50mm and a Canon 20-35mm L held revered onto the front of it (didn't have a reversal ring). It's not that great of a shot but I'm just showing you what my friend and I got with this combo.

I forgot what zoom the 20-35 was set to.

What combo would yield the most insane magnification possible yet a reasonable working distance? The most forward lens was probably like 1 or 2 inches away from the pin.

Pardon the nasty compression.

I'd like to add that the depth of field is thinner than the actual pin. So it was had to do this hand held. :)

Very sharp :)- just shows what you can achieve with some creativity with the lenses. A normal macro lens achieves a 1:1 magnification at minimum focus. With a reversed lens on another lens, the magnification= focal length of primary lens/ focal length of reversed lens , so you need the longer lens attached to the camera. The problem with this as you have found out is the minimum focus distance normally ends up very close to the subject.
