Feb 7th 2020,

Today's solar. There's a large prominence on the Eastern limb from this morning and a wee cycle 25 plage near the Western limb and some filaments in that area. Captured in both HA & CaK representing the upper & lower chromosphere.

Feb 8th 2020,

Today's solar features in Hydrogen Alpha at 0.5"/pixel scale. Some notable prominences and a fairly large dark filament (soon to be a prominence when it rounds the Eastern limb).

Feb 22nd 2020,

The quiet star today, not much going on, so took a look at it in Ha, CaK & Gband to see the differences between the upper & lower chromosphere and the photosphere:

March 7th, 2020

Some activity finally stirring up. A new AR that is cycle 25, forming a sunspot right now, currently a class A spot, two visible umbra, a dipole. And a big juicy prominence on the north eastern limb.

Another wonderful series Martin.:-)

Just a quick question - how do you scale the apparent size of our Earth to the Solar Limb in order to display the relative sizes?

Cheers

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

You can calculate it based on focal length and FOV and all that, but all you really need to know is that the Sun is 109 Earth diameters. So if you scale an Earth disc up to match the solar disc in pixels, then divide it by 109, you get the Earth scale relative to the sun's scale. It's faster for me to do that.

Did you see those sun images circulating showing what looked like a double round space station in front of the sun.

P.

Some stuff.
