July 18th 2020,

Quite a calm and quiet chromosphere today, so I went for high resolution photosphere to see the ever present convection cells. Full disc provided with resolved cells and a high resolution version to show what that texture actually is made of.

July 24th 2020,

A new sunspot of cycle 25, AR2767, has persisted rounding the limb. If it persists the entire transit of the face of the disc it could last upwards of a total of 10~12 days potentially (limb to limb).

Captured in high resolution under good seeing conditions (0.4~0.8 arc-seconds sustained averages) in Hydrogen Alpha (upper chromosphere), Calcium K (lower chromospher) and G-band (photosphere).

The Gband image took the front page of Space Weather. (external link)

July 27th 2020,

AR2767 persists and still has a good visible sunspot with a penumbra making it more of a class H sunspot currently. There are the beginnings of a light bridge that is more visible on chromosphere data HA & CaK and less visible in photosphere data Gband, which is an interesting thing since sunspots are a photosphere structure, but obviously some material is being exchanged between the layers of the chromosphere and photosphere in this phenomena.

HA (upper chromosphere):

Very best,

Excellent work Martin and thanks for the wonderful animation, it was really fascinating to see the "layers" according to wavelength used.:-)

Cheers

Jeff,

Excellent shots, all of them!!

Thank you for the "extra" shot of your setup. Your tripod, and your equipment to follow the sun with scope looks pretty dang heavy!

Any idea how much it might weigh??

The mount is about 85 pounds and I have another 40 pounds of weights on the spreader tray. I leave it setup all the time
