i decided to get an induro tripod used...it came with an induro BHL2 ballhead, but the clamp on top of it looks like it's cracked, and i can't really trust it...it easily unscrews though, and it seems like it would be a pretty simple fix...i'm thinking of grabbing this to replace it with.

any other suggestions? i looked for an induro one, but couldn't find anything out there

any info would be appreciated. thanks

Get an RRS clamp from their website or on the used market, simply make sure it is the right diameter screw size for your ballhead.

but the one i linked to would do the same thing right? just not the best option, and cheaper? if i went for an RRS clamp, for just the clamp, and 1 plate, i think it would be something like $140

The link appears to be a suitable solution; not necessarily with a proven track record of users.

it does have all the amazon user reviews though...i'm hoping to find something off of amazon since i have a gift card balance on there

i also sent an email to induro's parts and service dept. to see if they offer anything up that i couldn't find

Desmond is a Sunwayfoto brand and the QC is somewhat better for those two names than other stuff Sunwayfoto manufactures. I have a number of RRS and Acratech clamps and also the lever release version of this clamp in both regular and heavy duty versions. So far I have had no problems with the Desmond clamps at all and I'm sure that the screw release version will be equally reliable.

I've got a few Desmond Arca clamps, I trust my EF 500mm f/4L II on the Sidekick with one for years, no issues at all, as described here;

I say your good.

Some recommend thread locker, just make sure you don't get the one that's nearly permanent!

It was designed to go on a ballhead, and on a tripod that's how i use it.
However the "Gimbal on a monopod" is a favorite of mine, and in that case, there is no ballhead to drop the Sidekick into. So I came up with this idea.

I use several Desmond clamps and plates, as well as a monopod tilt head, and have never had a problem. As I recall from researching them in the past they have a good reputation.

got the clamp, and it works great...bought a couple plates all for cheaper than the benro plate induro linked me to...now i just need to learn the workings of using a ballhead as a gimbal :)

Thread locker helps too. The clamps that have the machined recess for the anti-twist helps.

Some mods to this Kirk clamp for the smaller tripod:
