Are banned members completely shut out of their account, or can they just not post?

I have often wondered what it takes to be banned. Human nature I suppose to be curious. Thanks to everyone that gave examples of how things work in the background.

I do agree that this message forum is very well run. I always enjoy the conversations with very little unruly behavior. These days that seems to be rarely seen on the internet

I had my account permanently banned (closed) earlier this year. My account was closed due to another user reporting my post. The post they reported was one where I told another user how to report their post to mods so that that other user could have their account closed. A third user reported my post instead of the original posters comment to mods to get them to close their account. Problem is, my account was closed instead of the person wishing to have their account closed. I contacted one moderator by email to their business email listed in their signature. The forum itself has no option to report such a mistake. Thankfully someone figured out the mistake and corrected it, but now I do have the right to claim that I am a user who has actually returned from a "Permanent Ban.":mrgreen:

OhLook, my response above got reported by a third party. The moderators interpreted the report from the third party that I wanted my account closed, not d_j_s wanting his account closed. In this case, my account was closed and I got a message that said I was permanently banned from the forum with a pretty serious warning not to try to get around the ban by opening another account, etc.

I contacted one of the moderators by means of his private site and explained the situation. I don't know if that moderator is the one who "found" the mistake, or if Lester did, but this morning I was able to return to the forums. He is just trying to avoid what happened to me from happening to someone else.

P.S. In a PM, Lester named the user who reported my post. Just to let you know, OhLook, it was not you. :-)

Those of you wanting to delete an account please only report your own posts and not anyone else's to avoid confusion.

If you have a zero post account, then post in this thread and report your own post.

That made me smile.
Wonder you weren't banned for life offering goat leggings to Admin. That could get wildly misconstrued :p

LOL. Indeed.
