I'm guessing that the numbers in the thousands for "awful scores" come about when someone goes to the scoring page without rearranging the swatches, just to see what will happen.

Yup, I scored the out-of-sequence original order of colors, fed it age and Male, and it says I scored 1014.
Then it also says (rather inconcievably)

Best score for your gender and age range: -308
Highest score for your gender and age range: 567471

The highest score can be worse than the default color sequence score?!

People have been hacking into the service calls/html of the page, just disregard any ranking info, just the base score is all that matters really. The form is a simple HTML submit POST form, which means you can construct the call for the submit button manually, or use a browser's developer tools to change the color tile numbers sent to the submit action to be any number of values. Here I changed the numbers of the swatch colors to be negative and super large numbers, then hit the submit button.

This is how most sites are easily hacked, they don't prevent activity like this. You have to validate everything at the server level, not the browser level, and they didn't program in any checks on the swatch color array on the server.

The initial arrangement has some swatches near their proper places, maybe even a few swatches correctly placed. It may not be the worst possible sequence.

Each time you load the page, the swatches are randomly placed.

Then it's possible that they could form the correct sequence from the start!
