So, I am getting back into the hobby after about 3-4 years away. I just got a used 60d and the 50 f/1.8 STM. I am now on a limited budget due to my income is only from disability. I will prob not be buying any expensive glass from now on.

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with the Yongnuo 85mm or 100mm. I know they are pretty much clones of the Canon models, but how is the IQ? I will not be doing anything major, just pictures of things I like, and some macro work (with extension tubes).

Buy those used from here on POTN or Fred Miranda, those lenses are terrible and if you snag a deal, you will spend about the same for Canon. These lenses look like Canon but fall far short.

i have never heard a good word about Yongnou lenses.

The Canon 85 1.8 is a fantastic value for the money. I don't have a 100, but even the older 100 macro (non L) is a good option and fairly cheap.

I have the 35mm f/2. As I recall I paid around $80. I bought it to use on a Rebel XT I keep around for casual use. It reminds me of the so-called "nifty-fifty" I got rid of years ago (didn't care for it, it just never seemed to be the right focal length for what I do.)

The image quality seems fine to me for what I'm doing, maybe little soft at the edges. Focusing is slow, like the nifty, and I suspect build quality is comparable too.

As I said, it gets used infrequently (by coincidence I used it this morning) and am generally happy with it. If it were a lens I anticipated using more regularly I'd probably get the Canon.

Well, guess I will hold of. I wish I would of kept my Sigma 70-200 OS and 24-105L now. I'll just hold out and snag a Canon 100mm next month since I spent my spare cash for this month on the 60d and 50mm.

Great deals pop up on the forums all the time.

$210 for the 85 1.8 I posted earlier was a steal. :)

Good luck!
