I am considering getting an extra Canon 580ex ii or Godox tt685c to use for receptions indoors. Apparently both can work with a battery pack, given the right cord. I already have 2 of the Flashpoint BP-960 battery packs for my 360s. But it looks like the Godox extra detachable battery part is much less expensive. So I was wondering if one of the Godox would clip on the same way.

Last night I ciipped the Flashpoint BP-960 on my belt and the cord is long enough to reach up to above my camera where the flash would be. So it seems like a better option than using only AA's during a reception.

At least from Amazon's site, the Flashpoint extra batteries are $109 --- but the Godox are $54.

That means I could get two Godox for the price of one Flashpoint, if those Godox will indeed slip on properly.

Godox and Flashpoint are the same thing, just a different branding.

Also, I see no difference in pricing really.

You are looking at a different PB960 battery, one that has LED status, USB, and more capacity, vs the normal battery packs.

Thanks ... glad you replied !! Not just about whether they swap, but that link you sent for the less cost Flashpoint was something I apparently didn't scavenge yesterday searching. So that leaves me two options. Black if I want them to match. Or orange if I want an easy way to tell which is the newer battery apart from the ones I bought a couple years ago.

I'm not sure whether the life of these batteries will be determined by time or by how much used. I've had mine awhile. But probably have only used them for about 40 one-hour shoots.

I would just write month/year of purchase in perm marker next to the charging contacts so you know which is which.

Thanks.

Since you seem to have a more comprehensive retention of accessories, any chance you know the basic answer to my question in the other thread I posted today whether my Phottix Odin should trigger the "C" version of the Godox tt685c flash off-camera?

https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1505393

It's near the last piece of the puzzle before I hit the order button at the Amazon checkout.

If the Phottix won't that leaves either getting a 580ex ii or having to get a Godox trigger. I was sort of hoping the Godox tt685 could adapt the same way the Phottix fires my Flashpoint 360s and 600 ...

I am not sure about the Odin, but I suspect if the Odin is firing your 360 (assuming the 360II?) and the 600, then it is on the 2.4Ghz system so it should probably fire the TT685, same wireless system....

I put the Odin Receivers on the 360s and 600 so it's the through the shoe they are functioning. I think only the 600 is wireless but I don't use it wirelessly yet.

I would think the receiver would work on the TT685 then.

Just remember your TT685 acts as a transmitter (when mounted to the camera) to the 600 (and the 360 if you buy the XTR16). :) No odin transmitters or receivers needed in that configuration.

Thanks.

That will get me a step farther. In time, I think I will eventually get the Godox transmitter and a 2nd Godox flash later this year.. But I"m trying to keep spending minimal right now, after dropping dough on the new EOS R and RF 50mm 1.2 a few months ago --- going into winter which is my just-getting-by season for income.

I wouldn't have spent more this month, but I'm doing something out of the ordinary. A Cash + TFP wedding for a semi-celebrity couple's wedding, which will probably be televised as part of 1/2 episode. I won't be in the flimed part best I know, but their photos will be used for blogs, print, and possible magazine stuff. So I wanted to boost a couple weak links in my gear.

One was the wagon thing I shared elsewhere about --- so I can carry sand bags without getting thrashed. It will awesome for other stuff too, down the road.

The Godox tt685c arrived today and I tinkered with it some. Although the menu is a lot different than Canon, I think it will be quick to learn because I don't use much advanced features.

It does work perfect with the Phottix Odin trigger and receiver (for the manual setting and firing I use).
