A local pawn shop has a Canon 5D Mk III for a nickel shy of $1,500. I'm not sure if this is a good deal or not. The only thing I can think to do is show up with a couple lenses, a flash, and a memory card. Then check for dead pixels. I do have a kit for cleaning my own sensor, so I have a lighted magnifying lens for the job. What I won't know is anything more than what the camera would tell me in the info panel.

Advice on pricing and inspecting is appreciated.

If you look at the prices on POTN's own marketplace, you may decide this is not such a great deal. Add in local tax, and it will be quite a bit more than the going rate.
That said, you may prefer the comfort of a local purchase,. and the ability to test it.

I bought one here a few months back for my nephew for that price, BUT it Included a 24-105 f/4L lens!!!

I purchased my used 5DMiii last year around $1300 with under 20k actuations. Talk them down if the camera is in proper working order. Also look at Bokeh Market, that will tell you what the typical one is selling for these days.

Agree with others that the price is probably too high. The pawnshop may have priced it a year ago and not adjusted it for depreciation.

If it only has 5k clicks that might change my mind, but only down to 1400 bucks.

I paid $1,200 for a 5dIII a year ago. I wouldn't pay $1,500 for a III, even if one could be found brand new, these days when you can get a new grey market IV on eBay for $2,000. Find that extra $500.

For $1500, you can almost get a 1DX.

Hi RhodyPhotos -

I've made a reasonable effort to find a free program that would give me actuation information on Canon 5D mark 2s & 3s. I've come up with three failed attempts.
Can you provide any insights or suggestions? Thanks.

Bill

First three Canon 5Ds. Some lights (some really fancy ones too). Some glass (maybe a few too many but who's keeping track?). Some cool stamps on my passport.

Hi Bill,

AFAIK there isn't a free program that is really reliable. I used the apple appStore to download shutterCount on my mac and that does a great job. I was able to check the count on a whole slew of cameras, right from my 60d to a couple of 5d bodies that i was planning to buy.

It cost me about $3 if i remember right.

$3 bucks is reasonable. Thank you for the timely response.
