It has been years since I've checked this place out. Not new to dslr but new to today's cameras. I'm picking up a 77d but no idea what's a good multi purpose lens. I do a lot of still photography.

All depends on what you shoot and how much you want to spend. A good budget set of lenses would be the 18-55STM, 55-250STM, and maybe the 10-22 for the wide stuff. If you ant to spend a bit more, replace the 18-55 with 17-55IS as it's a much better lens. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Wilt Reader's Digest Condensed version of War and Peace [POTN Vol 1] More info Post edited over 4 years ago by Wilt. (3 edits in all) | The first two kinds would indicate the need (for your APS-C body) for something about 60-70mm FL to maybe double that FL (allowing you to be twice as far away but still get tightly cropped framing, while making it twice as easy to follow moving subjects) You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Much more expensive but old design and no improvement in sharpness - plus AF inconsistency. Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F

I would get (and myself did get) the kit 18-135 USM. Excellent lens. I've seen Archibald's work and, on that basis alone, would take this seriously. George

Thanks for the comment, George, but I almost always use the 100-400mm II and 100mmL macro lenses. They are for my bird and bug work. For general photography I do use the 18-135mm USM, but the frequency of use is much less than with those other lenses. Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F

Offers flexibility and good quality images.
