Hello.

I have the entitled lens and use it with a 1dx mk2.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to slow down the AF speed of the lens.

I understand that the AF speed, by design, is slower when using 1.4X or 2.0X extenders however, I'm unsure if it's possible to slow it down using lens or camera settings.

My thanks in advance for any help afforded.

I wonder if a neutral density filter would work as it would give less light for the AF to work with .
Just a thought .
Rob.

I currently just use case 1 in the af menu.
I don't really understand what the terms mean.

Are you saying it's possible to generate your own custom AF profile?

You can change how the AF Reacts it doesn't slow down the AF speed but can slow down how quickly it changes focus i.e your focused on a footballer and another guy runs between him and the lens at +2 it will grab the new guy at -2 it will stay with the first guy .

I Cant remember where this is in the menu as Iv sold my 1dxmk ii.

Rob.
edit its in the cases 1 to 5 tracking sensitivity .

If you think the AF is just to nervous/changes to fast try case 2(af will wait longer if your focuspoint strays just momentarely of your subject) , if you want it to react faster try case 3. Within cases you can fine-tune this even more. I don't think you can change how fast the lens reacts after it gets the go-ahead from the camera(except buy a non 1D..).

I don't understand why you would want to slow down the focusing? Most people want lenses to focus instantaneously.

Well it's because with a 1.4 converter the af slows.
My hit rate is much higher with a 1.4 fitted so to my mind if I can slow the af it might improve things with the bare lens.

Your hit rate is prolly higher because there is more of your subject in the frame

Something else to consider: have you performed microfocus adjust on the bare lens? If it's just a little bit wrong maybe your converter corrects that by chance so the combi is spot on.

Thanks all.
It appears to have been a combination of the things quoted.

I use AI servo because, in truth, I'm not particularly stable when holding a camera. I upped the AF tracking sensitivity and this went a long way to negating my swaying although there is now more audible servo action than before.

Having done that it became evident the lens was front focusing (this was obscured by my movements originally). Having dialed in plus 6 or 7 the hit rate is now much more in keeping with what I expected.

I suspect your issues are with the AF settings in custom functions. Going to bet its set on fast, If you dont want the AF umping all over the place......SLOW it down in custom functions
