Hello all,
I'm new to the forum, but the community looks like a very active and resourceful one, so I decided to join. I recently bought a Rebel T7i with a 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens and a 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II USM lens. Upon handing or slight shaking the 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II USM lens I started noticing that the components inside moves around and sounds almost like a can of tennis balls would jiggle around. While I've searched and noticed other Canon lenses has this issue, I did not find any specifically stating the the 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II USM lens has this issue. I tried reseting the IS motor as recommended by Canon tech support (turning IS off, engaging the shutter button half way, then turn IS on, then shut down the camera appropriately prior to removing the lens from the body), but the rattle is still there. The only time the rattle is completely gone is when I engage the shutter button by pushing it down half way and IS and AF is active. After noticing this rattle in the 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II USM lens, I decided to test the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens, and to my surprise, it's exhibiting similar characteristics, however, it is much less noticeable and less intense than the rattling in the 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS II USM lens. Of note, pictures from both lenses come out perfect. I love the image quality and vibrant colors that both lenses produce. There is no apparent problem with IS or AF. Can any more experienced members comment and provide some insight? Is this normal behavior or did I possibliy get 2 bad lenses? Thank you all in advance!
