I'm heading out to Nevada and Utah in a couple weeks and I was thinking about renting a lens. I'm going to spending time with family who live near Gass Peak (just north of Vegas). We're also going to be heading up to Beaver, Utah for a day or so for some fishing.

I've posted about wanting to acquire a Canon 70-200 ii. I was thinking this would be a good time to try out this lens. However, as I was getting ready to check out, ...I got thinking.

Would that lens (70-200) be a decent lens to take, or would a wider lens be a better option? I have no specific agenda. Just going to drag some gear around and shoot what catches my eye. Attached are some shots I got from my phone last time I went out. Sunrise over Gass Peak and sunset over Angel Peak. As a reference to what I'll be looking at for a week.

The cameras I'll be using will be a Canon T3i and T6 (wifes).

For landscapes, your current lineup looks fine. The 70-200 is a fine lens but your probably going to be shooting at f/5.6 or f/8 and though the 70-200 is going to be optically better than your 55-250, it won't be significantly so at those apertures. Now if you need f/2.8, like for portraits, then it's way better. :)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

You might have just saved me $130 haha

I just fell in to a pile of studio gear. So my sister-in-law is more than happy to let me shoot her 1 y/o. My brother-in-law has two kids (9 and 11) who play a lot of sports (football and soccer). He also has a 2 y/o and just found out another one on the way (Irish Twins!). I have a feeling I'll be taking a lot of portraits. But much sooner, I'll be in the desert!
