I recently acquired a Canon 600mm lens. I was looking advice regarding transporting during air travel both domestically or internationally with these larger lens. I do have a Think Tank international, but this lens will not fit in this bag. I've looked at a few options that would allow me to transport the lens itself but not the rest of my gear etc. Any ideas, solutions (sending ahead of time etc) would be greatly appreciated.

Not quite the 600 but I'm sure you could do similar...

I have a very cheap rolling suitcase that comfortably fits the carry on allowance with some custom cut foam that I can get my 500 f/4, 5D3, spare battery, charger, x1.4 converter and one small lens (17-40) into and a small laptop & mains PSU in the outer pocket.

Because it's rolling I can drag it along and wear a Lowepro bag on my back with the rest of my gear in, the roller is so effective despite having the biggest single piece of kit in it I've never had it checked for size - unlike the Lowepro back pack which has been checked by airline staff many times and it also has the advantage of not looking like it's carrying expensive camera gear.

I'm not sure if Airlines let you buy extra carry on allowance - quite possibly not, so the two bags for one person may not work if you're travelling alone, I'm normally travelling with my wife - so it's the equivalent of 1 carry on bag each, even though I always carry both on myself.

This is one of the reasons I ended up selling my greatly loved 800.

My "solution" was to put it the lens in its nice Canon case and then put the Canon case into a large piece of rolling luggage with clothing stuffed around the case. Even if you a flying coach the excess baggage fees are not too bad.

On site I used a Kata TLB-800 PL Telephoto Lens Backpack. It too went into rolling luggage with other items packed in and around it.

Looking at the posted image it seems this or other hassles may well prove worth it for you.
