Hello everyone,

yes, i am in the boat to make a change.

The main reason is i do alot of hikes during the summer and taking my 7DMII is heavy and i am trying to lighten my load. I love the camera, but for having it almost 4 years i have just under 9k actuation's on it, not being overly used any more!

I was looking at the new Sony A6400, as it would fit into the price range I would want to spend and from the great reading on the site here, it seems Sony kind of owns the mirror-less market?

Example
https://www.vistek.ca …sel-1650mm-power-zoom-len (external link)

Would that included lense be good for landscape photography?

Should I be looking at other options perhaps for something smaller, lighter but still able to give me some decent control of manual pics and RAW format?

If you sticking with crop sensor I'd suggest trying the new fuji X-t30.

The 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 is a very capable kit lens. Very large variety of lenses from primes to zooms. Some lenses are small and some are on the big side.

The Fuji 10-24mm f/4 would fit the bill for small and high iq for landscape.

How hardcore are you ????? the new upcoming Tamron 17-28mm will be great with the Sony A73 full frame. This will be a big jump up from your 7dmk2 or Sony 6400.

What you must understand is your 7dmk3 is familiar territory. Start using a Sony and post process the files....your in for a totally different world of how you edit.

Take a look at the EOS M50. You can use your Canon EF and EFS lenses or buy EFM to go really small.

The difference in size of the M system is amazing.

You may also wish to check out the 4/3 based systems.

If price is not a major option give the Leica M 10 a spin. Popflash has them new in box with full warranty for a bit over 5600.

I am very happy with my Sony A6400 and I also use an A6500 as part of a two camera setup for stills...

I am keeping my 7Dii because it balances quite well with my Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS ii lens...

Problem with the A6xxx cameras is the lack of long focal length lenses in a form factor to match the small size of the A6xxx cameras. The Sony 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS is the only long focal length e-mount lens that is small enough to match the A6xxx cameras. However, neither image quality nor the aperture of that lens is up to par for me!

Appreciate the feedback. the AIII and the Fuiji were priced a bit higher than I wanted to spend here in Canada, so i did go with the A6400. The one thing i don't get, is why did Sony only put a USB 2 port on this thing.. really? we are in 2019...

A6400 is a bit small - solution for me is to add an Arca Compatible L bracket which provides me with at least a half inch extra length for my shooting hand grip...

An extra half inch or so doesn't seem like a lot of extra hand room but, it is really significant... The extra weight is really insignificant.

Great for tripod or monopod mounting too, if you have A/C clamps on your gear.
