...so Adobe have quietly added a new update to Premiere Pro: the Freeform Project Panel.

What it is is a way of assembling your footage using a simple "drag and drop" interface. You can assemble rough-cuts in order like a flow chart in any way you wish, review it, set in and out points and save different layouts. Its a game-changer (for me at least) because I think very visually, and being able to lay-out the footage like this is exactly what I've always wanted to do. Its going to save me an incredible amount of time. Still playing around with it, and while I'd love to see stuff like annotations (I'm sure they will add that to future releases), but very impressed.

And when I went to see what other people were saying about it it turns out that I'm the only person on the net who is excited by this, so I thought I'd come share my excitement here :)

And as a bonus: the latest release is very stable, and hasn't crashed once on my aging computer! (So far!)

Ok, I'm excited too!

This is a very nice improvement on some of the Bin functions! I look forward to trying it out.

I've used what the earlier versions provided quite a bit, including view bin full screen, select user order, and drag things around until you have (especially) b-roll sequences in the order you want them. You can also do very rough trims. Then add your highlighted shots to a timeline sequence.

This is a powerful tool for visually editing b-roll in documentary style editing, and the new enhancements promise to not only make it much more powerful, but also to feature this little workflow. Many editors are unaware of it.

Thanks for pointing this out!

nofilmschool agrees with you banquetbear!

Freeform View can be activated in the Project Panel next to the icon and list view. In my opinion, this is the most important new feature of this release.

It’s new feature #23 of verstion 2019.1, found on this page:

And here’s a deeper review of the feature, and some workflows for freeform storyboarding:
