I read Canon is no longer offering support for repairs on version 1 super tele's. I read that Version 1 300 F/2.8's, 500 F/4'w and 600 F/4's are on their own when a problem occurs
Is this true ??
If this is true......I think that BS on Canons part

Apr 05, 2019 13:06 | #2 Yup, been like that for a while now from what I understand. No more parts or support... I have a photographic memory, just wish I'd remember to take the lens cap off more often!

Canon does the same with bodies. The time seems random but generally seems to be around 10 years, but this is how it has been for as long as I can remember. BTW, Canon is not alone in this. Other manufacturers do the same. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

edrader "I am not the final word" More info | Apr 05, 2019 15:23 | #9 if there is a demand there will be repair shops working on these lenses while parts are still available but with old gear it's usually wise to sell at some point while the equipment still has value. http://instagram.com/edraderphotography/

Will probably get a new 400 DO v/s a version 11 500 F4 I don't own the 400 DO II, but I rented it 3 times. Used with the 1.4xIII it has some benefits over the 500 II. When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.

Apr 06, 2019 05:57 | #13 Tom Reichner wrote in post #18840753 . There's nothing new about this at all. Canon has always offered support for roughly 5 to 8 years after they stop making a lens or a camera, at which point they finally stop supporting it. . This has been the case for many many years ..... why are you acting like it's some new policy or something? About 10 years ago they stopped supporting the old 400mm f2.8 NON IS lens that I had. Now they've stopped supporting its successor - the 400mm f2.8 IS version 1. Several years from now they will stop supporting the 400mm f2.8 IS version 2. Eventually they will stop making the 400mm f2.8 IS version 3, and then 5 to 8 years after they stop manufacturing it they will stop supporting it. That's how it has always worked, how it currently works, and how it will continue to work. . Nothing surprising. . Nothing different. . Just consistency from Canon so that its customers know what to expect with respect to product lifecycles and service cycles. . It also happens with cars, and computers, and bicycles. Oh and televisions. And software. No one will support anything forever. https://www.flickr.com/photos/127590681@N03/
