There's really nothing to get excited about. . Someone just got all dramatic and all up in arms about something that isn't new or different or surprising. . About nothing, really. . It's just what happens when someone lets their feelings and opinions flow before they do research and analysis first, to see if those feelings and opinions are warranted. Some of us do careful research, and study an issue before we start a thread or make a post. . We are careful with our words, because words are so important and we want to make sure that every single thing we say is completely correct. . Others just have a feeling, and go writing before they even take time to analyze whether or not their feeling has merit and is based upon sound facts. I would like everybody that posts here to POTN to continue posting here, but this would be an even better place if everyone took more care in thinking about what they are writing before they submit their posts. . It is an easy matter to refer to Google or Wikipedia before we hit the "SUBMIT" button, just to make sure that we are properly informed of the topic we are posting about. .

I for one am glad you posted this thread, I'm currently looking at 300/2.8 with TC's v 500/4 and weren't aware that Canon had stopped supporting these lens. I was wondering about the Sigma versions, I will now go off and do some research on those as the new Sigma lens really do challenge the big whites. Ian

Version 2 is fairly recent update Even if they were 10 years old, SO WHAT!? My car is 16 years old. I can still get parts for it, no problem, and the dealer will work on it, too!

The DSLR is dead, EF lenses are dead, Canon's latest offering is the bomb, Canon is going to put premium features in all subsequent models, gasp Canon stops supporting old lenses and bodies, etc. One learns quickly who posts new threads to create drama and how to filter for that noise. ![]() I disagree with this sentiment. This was news to me and a very valuable thread.

I have carefully read each post, and looked through all available gear lists. My general reaction is that a bit of perspective may be needed here. I am retired, and most of my camera equipment is older than my children. Some of my gear hasn't been supported for about 40 years. Hang on to your 1DXII, or 5DIV. In about 30 years, you'll get the same funny looks I get with my Contax 139, or my Pentax 645. I'd tell you which 6x6 camera I'm still shooting, but the film now costs more than the camera did when it was new. Embarrassing, to say the least. 80D, bag of lenses, box of lights, other toys.

Im not so sure batteries will still be around the way technology is going. How are you going to run these cameras if there are no batteries ?? And im really sure that Jpeg PDF Tiff will all be a thing of the past. Thats the problem with current technology...At least you can still find film and the chemicals to develop are still made I think that JPEG and TIFF will be around for a long time to come as they are the formats that the National Archive has chosen for image archiving. (at least according to the NARA Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Archival Materials Not sure why, but call me JJ.
