Canon knows their marketshare and their market, so they will do whatever is necessary to keep the bottom line in good shape. I doubt that would be to change sensor sizes. Not everyone wants to change format either, I couldn't care less about medium format. Give me more resolution and edge to edge sharpness on wider lenses with very little to no distortion and I am good.

But medium format would give you exactly what you want in resolution and edge to edge sharpness.

- And shoot sports?
- Access to a number of quality yet affordable glass?
- Is somewhat affordable, ie in the $3500-4000 range?

I simply have no need for MF, that I couldn't get with a high resolution 35mm sensor and good glass, it would net me nothing really, and I would think a vast majority would follow the same mentality. I really don't see people in masses clamoring for MF, is there really that kind of demand to expect Canon to stop making crop sensors and FF sensors and go to MF?

Sony already has their 60Mpx offering, but with a few niggles that people don't seem to like, I wonder how Canon is going to match or exceed that. It will be interesting to watch the news!

Sure, I want more than that, but that is all MF would give me, and I can have that with what I would shoot in the future without a switch to a new format. :)

I would rather have them start out with one MF body, and slowly work their way to an affordable line-up; then, potentially grow in a decade or two, to a body that can fire off 10fps, useable for sports.

When I got the 1DX II, I was disappointed in how little the image quality changed, while the only upgrades were for video. 14FPS is no different than 12FPS, and might even be worse for storage. I see no reason for 20FPS on Sony's or Leica's cameras, while a fifteen year old 1D Mark III did the job.

Even if the first MF camera is a dud, Canon has the ability to make one that will serve the place of a flagship camera. But, instead they cater to "people in masses" in reality which there are more than enough competing brands pushing out identical cameras.

Canon already made the perfect camera, which was the original 1DX, almost eight years ago.

It's time for Canon to innovate again, and give part of their longtime fanbase and committed loyal users something new to play with.
