Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Edible Arrangements. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Arrange some Edibles for us!

Here are the rules:
1. Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you). Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives. Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
2. Post your shots at any time during the week.
3. Post a maximum of two shots if you're uploading them to POTN (i.e., attaching them). You can post more than two if you're linking to shots that are not hosted by POTN (i.e. embedding them) but keep within POTN rules. Also keep within POTN rules about size. A copy of the size rules can be found here: IMAGE POSTING RULES
That's it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.
An index to previous weeks can be found here: POTN WORLDWIDE PHOTO WEEK INDEX

That's it!
Have fun!

This thread is costing me money. Again! Last week with the stacked ice cubes I couldn't make the shot I was after because I needed two lights for it and I only still had one flash. So I finally bought me a second one. Tonight was the first time I used the two together. It's a miracle I got it working right away as I always forget how to work the controls of things like these, once set.

I have been thinking about the theme all week and I have an idea but turning that idea into a good photograph is hard. I'm not happy with the results of what I shot tonight so I will try again tomorrow.

I'm surprised at the silence this week. Only Frank posted (yummy!) and it's such a great theme. Edible Arrangements. How cool is that?!!

I think I may have got the theme wrong. I took it literally, meaning "arrangement of food" or "food still-life"? I only googled the term after Tim's remark and realised it was probably something else. So all I had in my mind all week was "food still-life"! Problem is I don't know how to photograph food properly (I sometimes look at the food photography wizards here at POTN and what they do - amazing stuff). So for inspiration I turned to the Dutch Masters to see how they did it. If only I had a couple of dead peacocks lying around...

Two takes:

I like this one but don't like how it's too big in the frame and the background too undefined.

I like the background on this one a lot better (I used a self-shot texture for it). And that the plate has more space within the frame. What I don't like is the angle at which I photographed it.

It was a nice exercise with the two flashes though... :-P

Levina, those are good shots despite your misgivings. I believe food still lifes qualify, not that they're the only possible interpretation. I took Tim's comment as a joke, implying that he consumed his subjects before getting a chance to photograph them or else that he was so high when shooting that nothing turned out well.

Thanks for the encouragement, OhLook. And as I said it was a good exercise using two flashes.

As to Tim’s “marijuana edibles”, we used to bake hash cakes and after eating some of those one couldn’t do much more than chill and laugh... :-P

I like both shots, but agree with out on the first shot, a few feet further back from the subject would be good. I like the lighting.

I played with some candy and a flash. Not much different than a lot of my time.
