After months of no solar images from me ( for various reasons) I finally managed to get some today (Sat 13th Apr)

These are just single shot images ( no stacking) with my Lunt LS60THa ... the close up image is with the Televue x2.5 Powermate inline.

Camera is the ZWO ASI1600MM

Thanks guys, appreciated :-)

My personal fav is the second image in the first post with the very bright regions to the left of the spot
I could watch them come and go as the activity in the area varied

Am a tad frustrated that the use of the powermate causes the banding as seen in image 1 in the second post

Nice pics, Dave!

Weird about the Powermate. I've seen issues in some of my planetary images but I'm pretty sure they're not related to the Powermate.

Although, I have occasionally also seen some banding. Not to the extent you're seeing, but I've only done planetary with this setup, so my subjects have been much smaller.

Actually, it makes sense that it could be the same thing. Interesting...

Hi

Yes I don't see them when imaging without it ... see the other images
not sure if it is a Powermate or barlow thing, or something to do with the magnification
Or it's just a slight lens/imaging chip misalignment, not visible at lower magnification
that the tilt adaptor will remove here's the uncropped image ( excuse the dust bunny I cant seem to get rid of ( also only shows up using the powermate

Dave

Yessir, that will eliminate newtonian rings.

The rings are from there being some tilt in the system somewhere. The longer the imaging train gets and the longer the focal-ratio, the more pronounced these can become.

Very best,

Outstanding, will get one ordered

That explains why I done see them without the Televue powermate ... at one stage I thought it was a problem with the powermate

Thanks for your time and advice

Dave

So it appears my misalignment is present without the Powermate.

I was trying to find an image to show you what I'm seeing with planetary shooting, and I found a good example. Then I realized the example was from a couple of months prior to receiving the Powermate. I would expect I was still using a cheap Celestron 2x Barlow, however.

You can see the lines near the bottom of the image, as well as a little bit below the lower belt, on the right side of the image.

This is just a screencap of a single frame of video. If you watch the video, it is very apparent as it stays still while Jupiter floats around due to seeing.
