A Crested Pigeon taken at Oxley Creek Common. This bird is found widely throughout mainland Australia except for the far northern tropical areas.:-)

Only two Australian pigeon species possess an erect crest, the Crested Pigeon and the Spinifex Pigeon. The Crested Pigeon is the larger of the two species. They make a whistling sound with their wings when they take off.

Cheers

Dennis

We came across a crazy feeding frenzy. There were about 20 Snowy's (& a couple Ibis) around this very small pond and the Snowy's would repeatedly skim the top, dip their feet into the water to tilt down, and snatch these fish out. We sat in car & shot them from the roadside.

Torresian Imperial Pigeons (external link) gorging themselves on the endemic and common Carpentaria acuminata palm fruits, which they swallow whole, popping them down like lollies and passing the large seed:eek:. These birds arrive in the Top End from Papua New Guinea and eastern Indonesia in September and breed here, aided by the abundant wet season fruit, returning north as the dry season kicks in in late April.

Fantastic action picture. Would be even better if you lightened the heron a bit.

White-bellied Sea Eagle Haliaeetus leucogaster(Gmelin, 1788) (external link)

They bring back some live stock from Malaysia to Singapore, illegally I think.
They live in Singapore.
