This is using Adobe Color at import. 2nd image. Auto took the exposure to +23.

1st image. Auto applied to Adobe Colour. 2nd image. Converted profile from Adobe Colour to Canon Standard. I like the depth of Canon better.

The Canon standard after Adobe color looks nice. Nice shot!

Also for some punch add a little DeHaze. Doesn't have to be hazy to use it.

I wish LR had a way of being able to set black and white points in a preset. :(

If you hold the shift key and double click on the "white" and "black" labels in the develop module LR will automatically set those points. One workaround that has been suggested (not tested) is to have "auto" correction applied as an import preset then once imported do a 'select all' and apply a 'cancellation' preset that returns the unwanted changes back to zero. For example, create a preset that sets "exposure" to zero and call it "Reset Exposure". Once all your images are imported with the auto exposure process done to them, select all images and click on the "Reset Exposure" preset to cancel out any exposure changes made by the auto feature. Of course you can also adjust that 'reset' to do additional modifications.

Perhaps one day Adobe will allow layering of presets (have multiple import presets) on import.

All good stuff - MANY thanks.

RE:

>>> One more thing. At the Lightroom Queen's site they discovered that applying Auto during import is messing up exposures. Not sure if you are doing that but until Adobe corrects that I would not advise it. <<<

I don't do auto during import; have been doing using autosync.

Adobe vivid preset - agree - I don't like the looks of that one too much.

And thanks for the ISO preset tips. Have been adjusting in batches 12800, 8000, etc. The noise reduction of Lightroom is phenomenal - and one of the reasons I'm willing to fork over $ to Adobe every month.

You should check Bulk Develop. Between Personalized Auto Tone and Bulk I can export a decent file in about 20 seconds if I need to. 20 seconds if I don't have to crop, level, tweak, etc. I apply both and then get to work and spend time on more critical files.

These are my settings. I don't don't use the Contrast or Clarity options. In Personalized Auto Tone I instruct it to reduce contrast by 25% of what Sensei thinks it should be. A lot of people complained about Sensei dropping contrast that but if you look carefully it unplugs what I call mid-tones (old printer talk lol). You see a little more detail but I went with a lesser reduction. We will see what Adobe does. Actually at Luminous Landscape Jeff Schewe, who is part of the Pixel Genius group that developed the Export process, Detail window and Print module for LR said he was working on it.

I have not taken the time to create a range for Clarity and just leave it at +12. Not sure if more clarity or less is better for higher ISO's.

If you use PS the Pixel Genius group made PK Sharpener free about a year ago. It was $100 at one time. I believe it will work on any version of PS. It uses the same resizing and sharpening export algorithms as LR does but offers more options. It also offers capture and creative sharpening. Not sure how long it will survive with the OS updates we get.
