One of the favorite sights divers cherish seeing in Cozumel are the Spotted Eagle Rays & they are only present in numbers during the winter months. There are lots of Stingrays too but seeing a Manta there is rare & I haven't had the pleasure. It would be nice if you would also post what part of the world the photo is from as there seems to be variations in other oceans. Mine will be from Cozumel. You will notice that I try to get clean shots from above because there is a study group trying to monitor their movement using facial recognition software on the spot pattern which is as unique as fingerprints. They are not allowed to tag them & I assume they can't attach any form of transponder either.

I can't add to your post, other than to say your shots are fantastic!
Fascinating-looking creatures.

Thanks to all. They are Spotted Eagle Rays which are beautiful creatures and from what I've read there are different looking (more or fewer spots) in different areas of the planet. We see them in the Cozumel Mexico area in winter but they aren't common in summer (although there may still be a few spread out over the reefs). I had expected there would be a lot more divers with photos to share so I'll get a few more added & then upload some of the different Stingray photos I have too.
