I'm on PC, Windows 7

I have a two minute video (1920x1080 .MOV) I want to upload to youtube, but it is nearly 2GB in size.
I'd like to get the file size down by quite a bit first.

I have the 5D4 solutions disk and did not find anything on it that seems to be for Video editing or conversion.

I've had the 5D4 for many years, and this is the first time I've wanted to do this, ie: I'm not a video guy and don't want to spend money on editing.

What can I use?

Thanks in advance.

You have Windows Movie Maker on that machine?

VLC is another option for conversion.

Movie Maker is now discontinued, thought it might be on your older OS. VLC has been around for probably a couple of decades and is very well regarded. I'd guess it is a better option than Canon's offering

Yeah, it turns out all the Canon utility can do is take still clips. Nothing else.
I've used VLC in the past, and might just go that route again.
My only problem with VLC last time I used it was fighting file associations for playback,. but I think I can manage (I like my current payback app better)

Thanks for the advice.

VLC using h264 brought it down to 16MB! :)
Thanks, that was exactly what I needed.

A little late to the party...

I highly recommend Handbrake (external link) for conversions to h.264 or h.265. It's a little bit of a one-trick pony, but, it does those conversions to the current state of the art, providing a GUI for the premier X264 encoder.

I used it just yesterday for a dozen clips recorded in ProRes 422, about 200GB worth, took them down about 10x... with no loss in visual quality.

VLC is also a *great* product, but, its transcoding functions are a little less than intuitive ;-)a

Davinci Resolve. Ridiculously good for free. Post if you install it and I can give you some basics.

Simply choose a custom install to select/deselect associations; the same can be done
after installation by going to
Tools> Preferences> Show Settings> [ ]Simple [•]All<--(Select)...(scroll down if necessary).
Under File Associations, click button: Setup Associations.

Curious to know: What's your preferred playback app?

For my classes, I have now needed an actual editing application, and this is what I am working with now. It's daunting, and not at all intuitive for me, but I've never really edited any video so that's my issue. It certainly appears to be robust. There are tutorial videos I am watching, and they are REQUIRED for me :)

thanks for the recommendation.

This seems like the video version of Phase One and Capture One,. ie: the hardware company making the best software ;)

I found the very basics quite difficult. ie, import a 5 minute video, trim beginning and end then save.
I have used a few other video editors over the years and worked out those steps more easily.
Once I got that sorted, things got much easier.

When you import a Video and get prompted to change video settings or not, that determines available frame rates etc that you will be able to export. That baffled me for a bit.

I have always been looking for an easy way to crop video. In most video editors crop is something very different to crop in Photoshop or other image editing software.
In DaVinci 'Zoom' crops as most stills people would call it. So for reach limited scenarios, take 4K video, then use 2.00 Zoom, then save as 1080P.

I can now add various clips, add different sound if needed, use levels - curves, shadow highlight, saturation etc.

You can just add JPEG anywhere you want and stretch it to any duration you ant for title screens etc

Also worked out how to separate sound from video track, so for editing Digital TV based clips that often end up with audio out of sync, fairly easy to shuffle sound back or forward to re sync. (right click in timeline and 'untick' 'link clips' to separate audio from video.)

The only video I ever watched, he was too quick and I could not understand one key word I needed to get started! So frustrating. Replayed it 10 times but just could not hear what he said.

I see you've already solved your problem, but in the future, try handbrake, I use it for such purposes and its free. Does all sorts of formats easily.

For editing, take a look at Lightworks.........Major motion pictures have been edited solely on it and it is relatively inexpensive. (The Wolf of Wall Street, LA Confidential, Pulp Fiction, Heat, Road to Perdition, Hugo, The King's Speech)

I also have Resolve and it is a dog compared to Lightworks. Support for H.265 was added in the latest release. Still only writes in H.264 as they are somewhat snobbish about VQ. Imagine that? :)

There are extensive video tutorials and help. You can even try it out with the free version that is crippled in its ability to read and write different types of files.
