Hi

I have a question. Does the quality of memory cards ex- silicon wafer etc have an effect on the final storage quality of the images.

In film the base quality of film and the emulsions would determine the quality of the pic along with light of course.

have any of you observed any differences in photo quality using various cards.

Sorry if it is silly post
:-)

Laksh

Digital files are merely a bunch of On's (typically called 1's) and Off's (the 0's). Electrically values above or below a certain threshold voltage. But not a case of base noise vs. signals that are poorly differentiable from noise.

Nope, card quality makes no difference. It would add an very interesting element if it did.

The important qualities of memory cards are size, read and write speed, and possibly durability though it's not really that much of a concern these days.

The most important factor in buying a card is to make sure you buy a good card from a trusted source. There are a lot of counterfeit cards out there so don't buy a card from ebay or a no name supplier. B&H, Adorama, or if you want to buy locally, Best Buy or your local well respected camera store.

Like Walt said, the cards do no store analog information so in most cases the image will either be 100% as recorded or obviously flawed.

I would't think a cheaper card would cause poorer images but it could be less reliable. As cheap as cards are its always best to go with an excellent quality card.

Card quality makes no difference to "image quality". The data can either be read/written or it can't. If it can't then part or all of the file will be corrupted. The image won't be of lower quality... it just won't be an image.
