Spotted this little male crab spider in a Euphorbia flowerhead in the garden. Not seen it before. Think it's Xysticus audax rather than Xysticus cristatus I normally see. Turns out A new crab spider in the garden. Not seen this one before- I think it is a male Xysticus audax. Turns out It's a male Misumena vatia . Found in a Euphorbia flower head

Awesome and unfortunately horrifying for me as I witnessed a beautiful Bumblebee put to death by an equally beautiful Crab Spider the other day.
Everywhere I look these days its Game of Thrones! I just can't take any more...

Thanks Snowy - The bug kingdom has always been worse than game of thrones for deceit, sex, killing and cruelty - one of the reasons it's so interesting :)

Great shots. As to the predatory nature of Crab Spiders, their venom must be like an instant electric shock to the prey. There is no way a little spider could hold a struggling Bumblebee if the venom was slow acting. I watched an adult female P. Audax wander into a Black Widow web. When the Widow bit her, her legs all went straight instantly. I've got a photo of it, but sadly it's not clear enough to share in a forum like this.

Lovely shots and nice looking spider.

Spider ID can be a bit hit and miss I find.
