Is anyone using the WFT-E1 (external link)? Apparently officially it can be used with the 1D/1Ds and the 20D (with firmware upgade). I'm wondering, though, why it couldnt be used with a 10D and also why a firmware upgrade would be needed being that it just hooks up to the data port on the camera just like the IFC-200PC cable. Do these models have a different port connector?

I dont know much about it but maybe it has something to do with the 10D's buffer size/transfer speed? Just a guess.

WFT-E1 requires firmware support on the camera. If the camera doesn't have WFT-E1 firmware support, the transmitter won't work. There may be hardware issues on older cameras that mean supporting the WFT-E1 is impossible anyway - but I can't see Canon adding support to older DSLRs.

I believe WFT-E1 is supported on 20D, 30D, 5D, 1D Mark 2, 1D Mark 2N and 1Ds Mark 2. Some of these setups have minimum firmware version requirements for both the WFT-E1 and the camera firmware. 30D requires you to set the Communication setting in the Menu to WFT-E1, most other models with a Communication setting require it to be Normal.
