Since the 1.6GHz processor version has USB 3 ports, you can buy empty USB 3 connector enclosures and install your choice of SSD drive, any capacity you want.
https://www.amazon.com …ateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1 (external link)

As long as the enclosure the 'self powered' thru the USB 3 cable, the enclosure will easily power an SSD drive (or even conventional 2.5" harddrive). That way you have a very light weight and robust (no mechanical moving parts like a spinning harddrive) and the USB 3 + SSD combination will be very fast!

The only 'snag' will be the need to format the SSD to Apple drive format, as the bare SSD (no enclosure) will come with no formatting at all.

I just took a USB 3 connected enclosure which has built in RAID support, and installed two 500GB SSD units, set up the enclosure to support RAID 1, and now I have RAID 1 redundancy of all data which is written to that unit.

For portable drives to hold a lot of data, I like collecting drives such as WD Passport or Essentials. 4TB for under $100, comes with USB 3 cable, and I find speeds adequate for transferring large video files. I now have stacks of these kinds of drives for different file types (IE laptop backup, photos, videos, etc).

I personally really like Lacie, and think they are worth the money. They are proven work horses and I personally think better quality. Another thing to look at, is the Sandisk SSD. I have this one:

I use it with USB3 on my MacBooks. It works really well and very fast. I am a big fan of Sandisk and Lacie. Both have worked very well for me. I have had a few HGST and Seagate HDs fail on me. But those are conventional spinning HDs and not SSD. I have yet to have a SSD fail.
