For anyone who reads this thread, I ended up getting a 5D4. No regrets. It's not exciting, but it performs. The AF is impressive — I was able to reliably track people walking with an 85 1.2 II at f/2.5. High ISO noise performance seems to be about 2/3 stops better pixel-for-pixel. I find that 30mp isn't a huge increase but at least it's an increase. I guess my favorite thing is being able to lift shadows ~2 stops at base ISO with no real IQ penalty. Didn't think I'd care about dual card slots, but not having to hassle with backups in the field is actually great. Little upgrades like GPS and more AEB options are nice. Durability and weather sealing instill nothing but confidence, as I carried the 5D4+35L II around in moderate rain all day with no issues. Battery life is worse than the 5D2, but a full day's use is still possible on one battery. Canon needs to do better sensor-wise, but I wouldn't trade performance, reliability, QC, and CS for megapixels and DR.

I enjoyed the 5D mk ii when I had them. Sold both almost three years ago. Recently, I almost bought a used one just for an extra, seeing they're out there for about $500. But I held back because that would be $500 less for the next RF mount model when it finally arrives. I almost bought a 5D mk iv, but the EOS R and the two cards in my 5DS have been working out fine for me. At the moment, Either the EOS R or the 5D mk iv should satisfy you.

I converted my 5D2 to full time InfraRed :)

Thanks for sharing that. I was unfamiliar with the option to do that.

My reason for posting about IR conversion was "what to do with 5D2 after it's replaced by 5D4?" because I will NEVER shoot the 5D2 again if I have a 5D4 on hand. Converting it to IR made it have a reason to live. :) and in my mind, it was a batter option than selling a camera that sold for $2K+ new for under $500.00.

Just my point of view anyway.

I agree that selling the 5DII was not worth it and I kept mine, but I still use it from time to time especially if I am headed into a harsh environment where I know the camera might get knocked around, or as my backup when I need 2 cameras. My 5DIV is my goto, but the 5DII still does has a role as well.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I felt the same for the 5D-1 but it was seldom used. Even though it had depreciated the body was more shelf clutter than useful. Sold it for $500 with grip, 3 batteries and 2-RRS L plates. The longer I keep it the less I'll get for it. That's fine if I've run the shutter to make the cost to use ratio good and or there is still enough value to move into a newer body. YMMV in these situations though.

Funny thing about using it for "normal" work.

A few weeks ago I was doing graduation photos for my Wife's high school, and needless to say, the 5D4 is the one on the tripod hooked up to the strobes. Even if i don't use it, I like to have another body with a zoom lens over the shoulder for candids, impromptu group shot requests, etc. what ever comes up. Usually that means my 1D4 or 7D2. I'm always juggling which lens to use,. with the three different sensor sizes,. and EF-S options available for the 7D2,. and while i was trying to decide, I said to myself, "self, why not just use the 24-70mm on the FF 5D2, it's not so old I can't use it for that?"...

...then i remembered it was IR only ;)

At some point I should get one of those fast aperture EF-S wide zooms so the 7D2 is less of a compromise.
Or another 5D4 :)
