The collar has some years on it and has started to slip and rotate a bit. I'm thinking I could just add a little thin fabric to the inside and tighten up things. Any suggestions on a material to use, or a different plan completely?

I have the 70-300L which I bought an aftermarket collar for but I stopped using or installing the collar as it was marring the paint on the lens. My first choice was to line the collar with a thin felt type material. Easy to install using two sided tape. I never did do it but I think it would work quite well. I never went beyond the this should work stage. Just stopped using the collar. >>> Pictures? What pictures? <<<<
