Along with Clarity and Dehaze the Texture slider is a fantastic addition. I’m glad Adobe added Texture to the local edit tools (radial, graduated, and brush) because that’s the only way I’ll ever use the new slider.

I love it. I trashed Topaz's AI Clear and DeNoise AI the other day.

If you think Lr Texture is cool, you should try:

On1 Photo Raw's Dynamic Contrast
Topaz Studio's Precision Contrast or Precision Detail
Luminar Microcontrast

No to On1. No to Luminar. No to Topaz.

Yes, I’ve tried all these and no they are not anything I would tell others they should try.

Just my opinion...I respect yours. :)

I wanted to try Noiseless CK so I downloaded Luminar for a trial run. I then realized you had to get Noiseless as a plug-in. I went to the site but there was no trial version. I contacted Skylum and said I'm not paying $100 for anything without a trial. After several exchanges they got me trial version however because the Luminar version I was using was also a trial it wouldn't work. After several more exchanges and no success I gave up.

About a year later I learned that Noiseless was a free app so I got it. It only worked on Jpeg but a window came up saying I could get Noiseless CK for about $10 so I did. Turned out it became a legacy product, no longer supported and would not work with one of my cameras RAW files. I got my money back.

Many like it and I also respect peoples opinions on it but that was my experience with that company.

In addition to the software you mentioned, DXO Photolab Elite's Micro Contrast slider is very similar to the new Texture slider in Lightroom. Since some of Adobe's competitors already had tools that closely replicate the new Texture tool, it's great that Adobe has now made that functionality available to its Lightroom users.

I might have to try those, I quite like the RL deconvolution sharpening in Rawtherapee.

Took a quick glance at it, seems similar to Capture One's Structure slider?

As I was reading this thread, i was trying to remember what C1 calls it, thanks.
Yes I make a lot of use of the "Structure" slider. You LR users will like this way of adding detail, without the hazards of sharpening artifacts.

In an earlier post of mine I indicated it was terrific that Adobe finally added a feature already present in most of its smaller competitors' software. After a bit more thought, it does make me wonder why Adobe was so late to the party. I always thought Lightroom was supposed to be the raw processing standard. Based on my own recent experience over the last two years, they are fast being overtaken in various ways by a significant number of excellent competitors. At this rate I suspect that eventually Adobe's control over the hearts and minds of a significant portion of their loyal user base will falter.

It appears to be. I trialed C1 a few times.
